The Romania Digital Nomad Visa is an excellent opportunity for freelancers looking to work remotely from Romania while enjoying fast Internet speeds, low living costs, interactions with friendly locals, and Romania’s breathtaking nature.

However, there is a steep proof of income requirement equal to 3x the median Romanian wage, which ends up being close to $4,000 per month (more details below in the application section). 


Length of Stay: 

  • Tourist Visa: Up to 90 days per 180 days

The Romania Digital Nomad Visa is NOT for you if: 

  • You are an EU citizen. 

  • You can't meet the $4,000/month income requirement. 

  • You are unable to travel to a Romanian Embassy/Consulate in your country. 

  • You are able to meet the document translation and certification requirements. 

  • You don't plan on staying in Romania for more than 3 months. 

  • You want to live in a warm or tropical place year-round.

COVID Requirements:

You should check on the Covid requirements below before applying for the visa.


Pre-arrival:

  1. Vaccination against COVID-19

  2. A pre-departure negative PCR test result for a test taken less than 72 hours before you start your journey


Arrival to Romania:

  1. Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, completed at least 10 days before you travel

  2. Proof of recovery from COVID-19, valid 180 days

  3. A negative result to a molecular test for persons between 12 and 16

  4. Observe routine Covid safety measures such as wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining safe social distance.


Staying in Romania:

  1. 14-day quarantine for anyone visiting beyond 72 hours in Romania if you can’t provide proof of complete vaccination, recovery, or a negative test result

  2. Mandatory 14-day self-isolation for people from some countries, even with a negative PCR test result.

  3. Observing Covid safety measures such as washing hands regularly, staying in well-ventilated places, wearing masks, and keeping proper social distance.

How to Apply: 

Please note that all documentation must be translated into Romanian and apostilled (certified). 


What You’ll Need: 

  • Proof of financial solvency: "at least three times the average gross monthly salary in Romania for each of the last 6 months prior to the date of submission of the visa application, as well as for the entire period covered by the visa."

    • Currently RON 6,095 ($1,330) per month x 3 = USD$3,992 per month

  • Apply online and present yourself at Romania’s Embassy in your country of residence

  • Proof of accommodation

  • Proof of taxes paid and up to date

  • Clean criminal record

  • Health insurance with coverage for Romania with €30,000 coverage

  • A letter of intention explaining your purpose of traveling to Romania

  • Proof of self employment remote employment contract with a company, which could also be your own but registered outside Romania

  • Application fee of €120

  • You must present yourself in-person at a Romanian consulate in your country before departure.
